NERD ALERT series DEBUT with a FREEBIE!!

Happy Sunday, my friends! I’m SO excited today to FINALLLLLLY be showcasing my new product series . . . . . NERD ALERT!!     Before I dive in to show you all about my newest series of products, I wanted to back up and tell you where I found the inspiration to put it together!
You know how the old saying goes . . .  what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas?!
Well – not so much.
My trip to Las Vegas this past summer for the first annual, I-can’t-wait-til-next-year, AHHHMAZINGGGGG TPT conference, which you can read all about on another post{HERE!!}, taught me SO so many things.  I learned new tricks, I met AMAZING people, I was inspired BEYOND BELIEF, and I walked away from that week with two words resounding in my head.
BE YOU.
As I sat in session after session – wishing for even more sessions – I kept hearing these words.  Be you.  And I thought to myself – and about my a hundred mile a minute work ethic – and about how I share that CONSTANTLY all with you – and about how you all know SO much about me and what I love {and what time I get up} and about who I am . . . .and I realized –
“Huh. Yay, for you, Ashley!  You ARE totally being you!!”
Honestly, y’all.  I truly am a “what you see is what you get” kind of girl along this TPT, blogging, social media, and learning journey of ours as well as in *real life*.
My posts are long winded.  I’m long winded.
I post a ton of projects and show that I’m busy all the time.  I create a lot of projects and am busy all the time.
I answer your comments and questions and requests nearly IMMEDIATELY or as soon as I possibly can.  In reality, it upsets me when a “hello” is not answered or returned in the hallways of my school.
I’m being me. I’m totally being me.  And I’m going to keep being me.

So, by now, you’re probably thinking, what on EARTH does “being you” have to do with her new product series?! Well – since July – yes almost for 5 months – I’ve been searching for a way to BE ME through my product creation a little bit more! I’ve heard from so many of my sweet followers that when a product of mine pops up on their feeds, they know it’s mine without knowing that it’s mine.  That was a HUGE compliment to me, and through chatting with my bloggy bestie, Angie from Lucky Little Learners, she agreed that I totally have a certain “style” in my design and creation, but that I need a niche!  {ah ’em…her NICHE is her INTERACTIVE NOTEBOOKS. o em to the gee fabulousness}
A niche.  Yes.  I needed to find a niche! Well…easier said than done.
Until.
The fabulously talented NIKKI at Melonheadz started releasing my newest obsession. NERDS.
I KNEW immediately that these were going into my next product.  And they did.
I wanted to use them in EVERY SINGLE THING I MADE.  And I did.
I found myself refreshing her page to see when the next set was released!!  I may or may not have just checked her store just now for any sign of new nerds}. #musthaveallnerds.
And then…
The idea was born.
.  . . .OMG “NERD ALERT” would be such a great, catchy product series title!!!!!!! ANNNND added BoNuS – I can use Nikki’s nerds ALL THE TIME!! <3 Oh HEYYYY niche! Found ya!
Soooooo, it may have taken me 6 months, and you still may not quite understand how I’m thanking Vegas for my inspiration of NERD ALERT, but that’s ok . . . because it’s that kind of crazy non-linear thinking of mine that is bringing this product series right to you . . . .it’s that kind of crazy non-linear thinking of mine that I’m ok to admit that I have – because I’m being me. 🙂
And that’s where this post all started. 🙂 Me being me.
NERD ALERT!!! Here’s its debut on my little ol’ blog!!! <3 The first sets are grammar related with all things NOUNS AND VERBS!
Here’s a peek at the sets included in NERD ALERT: NOUNS!

There are 5 anchor charts included in this noun set.  Each anchor chart included has a colorful AND an ink friendly version for easier printing! I always post these anchor charts on my reading focus wall in the grammar section.  However,  I also keep nouns, verbs, and adjectives posted all year long AND have my students glue a smaller version of our anchor charts into their grammar interactive notebooks for easy reference!

You all know I LOVEEEE scoot!!! NERD ALERT: NOUNS has two sets of scoot task cards that you can use as a whole group, having the students scoot around the room, in small group, giving students one task card at a time to solve independently or as an exit ticket, OR you can even use them whole group posting one task card at a time on your smart board screen to solve WITH the kiddos!

The first set of SCOOT in this pack is common and proper nouns . . .

And the second set is all about pronouns! Colorful AND ink friendly versions are included for each as well as a recording sheet for the students to write their answers.

The next activities in this NERD ALERT: NOUNS set are SORTS!

The kiddos will sort singular and plural nouns – irregular plurals are also included…

… and the second sort is common and proper nouns! Each set of sorts includes headers, cards to sort, ink friendly printing options, and a recording sheet.

The last set of activities in this NERD ALERT: NOUNS set are flip flap resources that can be added to your students’ interactive notebooks for ELA!  The included flip flap resources include practice with nouns, singular nouns, plural nouns, common nouns, proper nouns, and collective nouns.

Next up! . . . . NERD ALERT: VERBS!

 

You’ll notice that each NERD ALERT set will include a very similar format with similar activities, too!  This way, you’ll know what to expect each month {no worries, there will be PLENTY of variety thrown in, too!}, but your students will also get accustomed to the set up and format of the sets, too!

NERD ALERT: VERBS also includes colorful and ink friendly anchor charts as pictured below…

The first set of SCOOT cards that are included are for past and present verbs. . . .

And the second set of SCOOT included in this set includes practice with helping and linking verbs.  HOLY MOLY is this ever a tough one for my kiddos!!! Before offering them these task cards for practice or as an independent job, you may find my HELPING VERB unit helpful {HERE} for an introduction to helping verbs in isolation.

This set also includes some practice with sorting verbs! The first sort, including colorful and ink friendly printing options, is with regular AND irregular verbs in the past, present, and future tenses.

The SECOND set of word sorts – also with ink friendly and colorful printing options – won’t let the kiddos forget about NOUNS!! They’ll have to sort nouns and verbs into the correct column on their recording sheets!

And lastly, there are plenty of flip flap resources, too! I’ve included teacher notes with suggestions of how to include these in your classroom, but I will be using these as an added activity for practice, assessment, or even an independent activity, and we will glue them right into our ELA interactive notebooks!

 

There are flip flap resources to practice action verbs, linking verbs, helping verbs, verb tenses, AND adding ending to verbs that do and don’t change their spelling!
So! There you have it! NERD ALERT sets 1 and 2 in a long winded nutshell.  🙂

    I love buying your products as I know the quality is always high and you have the perfect balance of clip art and borders versus the information (especially on task cards) and the information/task is always the main feature and most importantly you choose easy to read fonts (something that really frustrates me in other products). So even though I sub at the moment and I don't know what age I will be teaching from one class to the next I always have your cards in my bag of tricks. I have even used them successfully in what is your grade 6/7!!! They were fantastic to get them practicing a skill that they were totally lacking in! So thank you for all that you do and for sharing it with us, cause it is totally appreciated!
    Oh and I totally love the Nerd look – I always teach kiddo's to be called a nerd is a compliment as it means your brainy and lets face it Nerds rule the world 🙂

And OMG I LOVE telling my kids that it's great to be called a nerd, too! I used the nerd clip art to personalize numbered magnets for my kids, and they LOVE them!! <3

Ashley, i have to tell you… i have been feeling a little down with my "creativity" block and feel "lost" lately in wondering how or what to create as my next product etc. So this uplifting and inspiring post came just at the right time for me, to remember to just be myself when creating my products!
