Five for Friday, a FreeBiE, annnd the top kid quote of the year!

February 15, 2014 By Ashley Schroeder

Hi friends!! I know it’s Saturday, but when a full moon AND a Valentine’s Day party AND a sinus infection all happen on a Friday, I’m linking up with Doodle Bugs for Five for Friday a day late!

It’s here! Our collaborative blog is up and running and currently introducing its AmAzInG authors!! I’m SO so excited to be a part of it!!! Jump over to the Collaboration Connection and see who we are!! My first post is set to post tomorrow!! 🙂
I hope you join us, follow us, and collaborate with us on this new journey of ours!

Whew. . . . I haven’t been doing too much creating at all this week, because I’ve been prepping for OTES round 2.  OTES is our new teacher evaluation system, and to be quite honest, I’ve been busting my TAIL to fill my evidence binder and to prep a meaningful lesson {with close reading} for my kiddles.
Here’s a little snap shot of what I’ve been prepping for my observation.

^^FREEBIE IN MY STORE!
Anyone else kicking their own tail to prep for an upcoming eval?!?

Here’s a peek at my binder  . . .

You can take a closer look at my OTES binder and its pieces and parts HERE.
Did you have a happy Valentine’s Day?!?! I did.  I LOVE Valentine’s Day with my kiddles!!
This year, I LoVeD the freebie *non food* valentine cards that I found at What The Teacher Wants!!!
I got some super cute and fun erasers at Target and, though I struck out with finding crazy straws, I ended up getting them bubbles to go with this card I whipped up! . . .
At our party, they  played a relay race game during which they had to race to one end of the room, put on mittens, open a Hershey Kiss or Reese’s cup, and then head back to their starting spot for the next person in line to go! . . . Well, one round had an uneven amount of players . . . enter player Mrs. Schroeder.  The kids thought it was hilarious annnnd I ate more chocolate yesterday than I’ve eaten in the last 5 months I’m sure hahah! SO fun.  I felt like I was 8 years old again!
So Valentine’s Day with the hubby and I consisted of Subway, pretzels, a card exchange, Advil Cold and Sinus (hot, right?!) andddd laminate.
I can hardly wait to get these close reading book marks into my kids’ hands this week. I just KNOW that having these simple, easy to remember and connect to close reading symbols to use to jot their thinking as they read are going to be a HUGE help in helping them really think about what they’re reading on a deeper level!!
I’m sticking to my kid quote theme for my 5th random of the week:
THIS . . . . .
girl: I love when I get to wear sweatpants to school on gym day!
me: I wish I could wear sweatpants to school on gym day!
boy overhearing our convo: my dad calls sweatpants give-up-on-life-pants
me: well, then you’d better not tell your dad that they’re my most favorite article of clothing.
hahahahaha
ANNNND I saw this that spoke screamed at me!

I just love it.
Ok, off to write the lesson plans that didn’t get written this week due to my OTES crazy prep filled week!
Happy Saturday friends!! 🙂

WOW! You've had a busy week! Hope you are feeling a little better by now! That kid quote had me laughing so hard. I LOVE my sweatpants too girl!!! And that OTES sounds and looks CRAZY HARD and TONS OF WORK. We are starting a roll-out of a new system called TKES. I didn't get picked to be in round one this year, but will be doing it next year. Your stuff looks AMAZING! I'm sure your administrators will be totally wowed! Have a great weekend!

Where in Ohio are you? I went through OTES and didn't have to do anything as detailed as this!!! Now I am wondering!!! Do you have to do the SLOs as well? I don't mind the evals as a matter of fact, I love it when people come in to observe all of the great learning that is going on in our class….I just can't take all of the paperwork!

Bahaha! The sweatpants quote is classic! Our Valentine's Day sounds just as exciting as yours… I was so doped up on mucinex and dayquil that my wife watched TV shows while I fell asleep on the couch.

Also, your close reading bookmarks are adorable!! I think my high-flying reading kiddos could really benefit from them!

I am so glad we do not have to create these evidence binders in Texas…yet. I have not been envious. I love your bookmarks and look forward to following your new collaborative blog.
